A FRIEND REMEMBERS RAY BRADBURY - 1920-2012

Early in the morning last Wednesday, about fifteen minutes after I heard that Ray Bradbury had died the night before, I got a call from Saul Gonzalez of the NPR station in Los Angeles, KCRW, asking for some comments. Saul knew of my organizing Ray Bradbury Week in 2010 in celebration of Ray's 90th birthday, and he knew of my more that 30 years friendship with a man whose work and life has meant so much to me.  A portion of my comments were included in one of the afternoon newscasts, and the full interview can be heard here: A Friend Remembers Ray Bradbury

Following are a few pictures with Ray over the years.  I last saw Ray on March 23rd of this year for a visit. We talked about books, old movies, and Looney Tunes cartoons.  The last words I said to him were, "I love you, Ray."  The last words he said to me were, "I love you to."

Our last family visit to Ray Bradbury. It was our Xmas visit to Ray on the 22nd. Amanda and Ray had a glass of wine, Miranda and I had a non-alcoholic drink, and we toasted the season. Amanda read to Ray, Miranda and I told jokes. And we reminisced. I visited Ray one last time in late March, but this was the last time all three of us were able to visit.
